Elective-Geography Journal Entry

On  11 January 2011, Mr Kwek, taught us on the different types of natural vegetation. Some of which are as follows. Natural vegetation are plants that grow naturally without human interference. Natural vegetation plays an important role in an ecosystem and animals and people depend quite heavily on it. Nature vegetation then can be further classified into three major groups which are forests, grasslands and deserts. These vegetation types are called biomes which is the living part of the ecosystem. Under the forest biome, there are the 'Tropical rainforest', 'Temperate deciduous forest' and 'Coniferous forest'. Under the grasssland biome, there are the 'Tropical grassland' and 'Temperate grassland'. Under the desert biome, there are the 'Hot desert vegetation' and 'Cold desert vegetation'(Tundra). The influences of climate on vegetation growth are temperature and precipitation. We also learnt about the structures of forests and how they are classified into different layers and what are their characteristics and the plants in it.
